Initial Planning - Seasonal Recipes
Purpose
Season Recipes will be responsive food idea/recipe site that will inspire you to create wonderful dishes. It will be a place to visit when you need an idea for dinner, or for a potluck you are going to attend. One of the main features of Seasonal Recipes is finding recipes that are less expensive and higher in nutrition. When we shop for foods in season they cost less because they are not coming from all over the world, hence cost of shipping. Also, since the food is more local, it arrives at our market quickly and the nutrition doesn't degrade from the time lag.
Description
My website will mainly provide seasonal recipes plus more ideas for cooking. The main page will have clickable seasonal photos that will take the user to another page of ideas specifically for that time of year. For example, for fall, they may click on a photo of pumpkins and it will take the user to a page of fall flavored recipes like caramel apples, pumpkin bread, spiced cider and so on. The audience attracted to this site will be mainly women that want recipe ideas.
Audience Description
The audience for my website will mainly be women between the ages of 20-55. The users that visit my site will be looking for fresh ideas for meals. They might be looking for ideas for a party they are having. Teenage girls may visit looking for a delicious treat to make. College students unarmed, without their mother’s recipes may visit to experiment with cooking on occasion. Many of the visitors will have jobs and may look in to look up a quick dinner idea. The income level will range widely for my visitors because everyone eats, but the majority will be middle income earners.
After a bit of research, I read that men usually do not visit sites like this except in the UK. This is an interesting fact that men of the UK have an interest in cooking and visit food sites. I will not cater and tailor my site towards men but it is possible to have them visit.

Middle Aged Mother - This visitor is in their late 20's to 50's with children. They may work outside the home or not. They search for meal ideas to create for their families and the occasional party.
Teenage Girl - This visitor can be as young as 10 years old to 19. She searches for dessert ideas or the latest craze like cakepops. She sometimes searches for ideas to make a meal for Mothers day or Fathers Day.
Health Enthusiast - Men and Women that enjoy eating homemade food for the health benefits. Homemade foods are lower in sodium, higher in fiber, lower in fat and overall more nutritious. They will visit to find new ideas and watch how to make foods on videos provided.
JSON File Usage On Site
The JSON file holds all the recipes for all the seasons. It will be structured by season. Following that it will have all the cooresponding ingredients and directions. Every time a user clicks on a photo to get a recipe, the JSON file will be read via Ajax (JQuery) and populate the print_recipe.php page before it displays to the user.
Pages with Video
Seasonal Recipes currently has two videos to view how to make these dishes. The Fall page has a video of how to make Ham and Potato Soup. Cheap Eats, which is an extra bonus page, has a video on how to make an inexpensive meal called Poor Man's Meal. Also, I have included the required video for the walk-thru of my site in the footer of all my pages.
